Olympus OmniScan SX: The Lightest and Most User-Friendly Flaw Detector
The Olympus OmniScan SX is a high-performance flaw detector that builds on more than 20 years of phased array expertise. Designed for simplicity and portability, the OmniScan SX is ideal for less demanding applications, offering a cost-effective solution without compromising performance. Its compact design and user-friendly interface make it the perfect tool for industrial inspections.
Key Advantages of OmniScan SX
Streamlined Interface and Touchscreen
Featuring an 8.4-inch (21.3 cm) touch screen, the OmniScan SX provides a clear and intuitive software interface. Single-group, non-modular design ensures easy operation and low maintenance costs.
Lightweight and Portable
33% lighter and 50% smaller than the OmniScan MX2
Compact and portable design
Ideal for field inspections requiring mobility
Models and Inspection Capabilities
The OmniScan SX comes in two models:
SX PA: 16:64PR phased array with a conventional UT channel
SX UT: UT-only with pulse-echo, pitch-catch, or TOFD inspection
These models support phased array weld inspections, corrosion mapping, TOFD weld inspections, and component inspections.
Setup and Configuration
Inspection setups can be imported from NDT SetupBuilder via SD card or USB. Direct setup on the OmniScan SX is simplified through:
Automatic probe recognition
One-step, preconfigured application wizard
Weld Overlay and RayTracing simulation
Calibration Wizard
Step-by-step guidance ensures code-compliant inspection:
Velocity and Wedge Delay calibration
Sensitivity, TCG, DAC, AWS, and encoder calibrations
Automatic TOFD PCS calibration and lateral wave straightening
Data Acquisition
Easily configure inspections for manual, one-line, or raster encoded scans. Key acquisition features include:
Real-time display with user-selectable views
Hot-swappable SD card or USB 2.0 storage
Intelligent layouts and full-screen mode
Synchronization and measurement processing using multiple gates
Data Analysis and Reporting
The OmniScan SX supports extensive defect analysis:
Cursors for defect sizing, reference, and measurement
Database for trigonometry, flaw statistics, and volumetric information
Interactive and automatically updated views
Preconfigured layouts for fast defect sizing
Compatible with OmniPC or TomoView for advanced off-line analysis.
Applications
Phased Array Weld Inspection
The OmniScan SX provides reliable weld inspections for ASME, API, and other code compliance, with high-speed detection and clear indication interpretation.
Corrosion Mapping and Composite Inspection
Zero-degree inspections detect wall loss and anomalies efficiently in composites and corroded structures.
TOFD Weld Inspection
Fast and cost-effective technique for detecting and sizing weld defects within the volume of welds.
Component Inspection
Angle and linear zero-degree ultrasonic beams allow detection of cracks, wall loss, and other damages in components.
